ABAST 2009

Digital video with sound track

The term ‘Abast’ is the point on a ship just past half-way.  Closer to the end than to the beginning.  It is a homage to leaving, imagining the immanent trip, an ever-nearing departure, and projecting it onto the walls of my flat.  The result is a fantasy of both ‘home’ and of ‘away’, a collage-postcard-film of a place that does not exist.  In it my 4th floor flat becomes the central character, where images blue-tac’d to walls – incidental debris of life – form a narrative of home.  This piece was made to exhibit at The Cooper Gallery, Dundee before leaving for a 2 month residency at the Scottish Pavilion in Venice.
